You Ji VMT Series – Vertical Mill/Turn Centers
The You Ji VMT Vertical Mill /Turn Center Series combines 3-axis 5-face machining with vertical turning capabilities. The machines provide 5-sided or 4+1 axis milling and turning of medium size workpieces, producing complete parts in a single set-up. A full C-axis allows for 4-axis simultaneous milling, making the machines ideal for aerospace and energy industry applications.
Standard turning diameter is 39.4″ (1000 mm), as is maximum turning height. The 30 hp double wound main spindle motor delivers more torque at lower RPM than a 50 hp single wound motor. The milling spindle is 20 hp. Tool mounting is 50-taper size.
The vertical column and base are heavily ribbed Meehanite castings that minimize thermal distortion and dampen vibration. X-,Y-, and Z-axis box guideways are completely enclosed and feature hand scraped mating surfaces, Turcite-B coatings and forced lubrication. Servo motors drive large 2″-dia. Class-3 precision ballscrews in all 3 axes, eliminating belts or gears. The machine design features a fixed turning spindle and a 3-axis (XYZ) moving column for operator convenience and efficient chip removal.
The heavy-duty turning table incorporates high precision SKF NN type double roller bearings. A double labyrinth seal as well as air purge protect the spindle from coolant contamination. NN type spindle bearings handle heavy milling forces. A 30 hp high-torque Fanuc “P” type double-wound spindle motor coupled with a transmission system provides high torque at a low rpm. The spindle produces nearly 2,200 ft. lbs. of turning torque for heavy cutting.
The B-axis head features a Hirth coupling to lock the head position in place. A 90˚ index is standard for for horizontal / vertical milling, and 5˚ and 1˚ indexing are optional. Standard features include a heavy-duty 24 tool arm type ATC, a chip removal system consisting of a side discharge caterpillar type chip conveyor, spindle chiller, and Fanuc 31iT-B CNC control. This versatile machine tool is designed for standalone applications or is easily integrated into a production line.
