Oct. 2 Marks Manufacturing Day in U.S.
Every year on the first Friday in October, companies and communities across the U.S. celebrate Manufacturing Day. Also known as “MFG Day,” this annual event sees more than 2,3000 manufacturers open their doors to students across the nation.
The mission of MFG Day is to address common misconceptions about manufacturing, reduce skilled labor shortages, connect with future generations, and ensure the prosperity of the industry now and in the future. As a leading importer and distributor of CNC machines that are used in manufacturing operations across the U.S., Absolute Machine Tools fully supports this goal.
To help with this mission, we’d like to share some facts about the manufacturing industry that you may be surprised to learn.
Manufacturing in the U.S.
The manufacturing industry plays a key role in the U.S. and world economies. Did you know …
One of the biggest challenges facing the manufacturing industry today is a lack of skilled workers. Workers with industry certifications and vocational training are in high demand, and that demand is only expected to increase.
In a 2011 Skills Gap Report from the National Association of Manufacturers, 67% of manufacturers reported moderate to severe shortages in the availability of qualified workers, and 56% expected that shortage to get worse.
Whether you are new to the workforce or looking for a job change, this is an industry that has a lot to offer!
