Absolute’s Greg Knight and Scott Petrisko Discuss Swiss-Style Machining
Greg Knight, vice president of sales for production turning products, and Scott Petrisko, Applications Engineer for Absolute Machine Tools, shared insights on Swiss-style machining in an article featured in SME’s Manufacturing Technology Series 2021 Industry Report.
The article, “Swiss-Style Machining Simplified,” discusses the complexities of Swiss-type lathes and how industry leaders such as Absolute are working to make these machines easier to operate.
“Aside from our Nexturn line of CNC Swiss lathes, we offer a broad line of milling, turning, and EDM equipment, and wanted a programming system that works well with all of them,” Knight said in the article. “After extensive evaluation, our applications department recommended we go with ESPRIT [developed by DP Technology. … It’s quite easy to use, especially for novice programmers.”
Petrisko also stresses the importance of operator training in the article.
“Too many shops limp by, relying on their machinists’ ability to read the machine manual and pick things up on their own. If they were to spend some time and money on regular training, they could get so much more out of their machine tools. It pays for itself very quickly.”
