Tilt Rotary Tables

Tilting Rotary Tables

TJR Precision Technology produces tilt rotary tables to accommodate a wide range of 4th/5th axis manufacturing requirements. Also known as trunnion tables, these devices mount to the bed of a 3-axis CNC machining center and add a full rotating axis and a tilting axis, giving the machinist access to multiple sides of a workpiece without unclamping, repositioning, and re-clamping between operations. The result is true 4th and 5th axis capability at a fraction of the cost of a new dedicated 5-axis machine.

Benefits of Adding a Tilt Rotary Table to Your Machining Center

Adding a tilting rotary table to your existing 3-axis machine delivers measurable advantages across setup time, part complexity, and overall shop efficiency:

  • Eliminate multiple setups by accessing multiple faces of a workpiece in a single clamping
  • Increase work efficiency and reduce overall cycle time
  • Enhance the ability to machine complex parts with compound angles and curved surfaces
  • Reduce labor costs associated with repositioning and re-fixturing
  • Improve accuracy by maintaining a single datum reference throughout the machining process
  • Machine spherical features, intricate curves, and difficult angles that a standard 3-axis setup cannot reach

Choosing the Right TJR Tilt Rotary Table

TJR’s tilting rotary table lineup covers four configurations, each suited to different machine sizes, workpiece requirements, and frequency of use:

Standard Tilt Rotary Tables (FAR and FHR Series) are the primary choice for shops that need full CNC 4th and 5th axis integration. The FAR Series uses a pneumatic brake system and is available in single arm and dual arm cradle configurations. The FHR Series uses a hydraulic brake system with three independent braking circuits and a maximum tilting angle of ±110 degrees, making it the better choice for heavier cutting loads and larger workpieces. Both series integrate fully into your existing CNC machine control for simultaneous 5-axis operation, or connect to TJR’s DAC (Dual Axis Controller) for use across multiple machine tools.

Compact Tilt Rotary Tables (FAR Compact Series) offer the same full rotation and tilt capability as the standard series in a smaller footprint. With a 170mm face plate diameter, the compact model is ideal for smaller machining centers and smaller workpieces where a full-size standard table would be oversized for the application.

Manual Tilt Rotary Tables are designed for shops that need a full CNC 4th axis rotating capability but only occasionally require tilting. Available with a 255mm table diameter, the manual tilt model positions the tilting axis by hand rather than through CNC control, making it a cost-effective solution when continuous simultaneous 5-axis motion isn’t required.

TJR Build Quality and Warranty

All TJR tilting rotary tables are built around a large-diameter radial-axial preloaded bearing system that provides the rigidity needed for both light and heavy cutting applications. An anti-wearing worm gear and high-tensile brass shafts ensure long service life and maintained accuracy over time — two factors that directly affect the total cost of ownership on any rotary accessory used in regular production. Braking systems are designed with a large clamping range for secure positioning at any angle. All new TJR tables come standard with a 3-year parts warranty.

Not Sure Which Tilt Rotary Table Is Right for Your Application?

With four configurations available across two brake systems and multiple size ranges, selecting the right TJR tilt rotary table comes down to your workpiece size, cutting loads, and how frequently you need the tilt axis in motion.
