Absolute’s Jason Smith Discusses Nexturn SA32XII in “Getting the Most out of Swiss Machines” Article

Getting The Most Out Of Swiss Machines

Jason Smith, Absoluteโ€™s national sales manager for production turning products, highlighted the Nexturn SA32XII Swiss Lathe in a March SME Media article, “Getting the Most out of Swiss Machines: Tips From Top Suppliers.”

In the article, Smith notes that the SA32XII‘s dual independent gang slide and three-channel programming allows for three tools in the cut at once.

โ€œThere are a ton of applications where we can get both gang plates removing material and achieve reduced cycle times and more stable processes,โ€ Smith said.

Smith continues to explain that long turn profiles are ideal applications for the SA32XII CNC Swiss lathes.

โ€œIt is common to exceed the recommended depth-of-cut rating on an insert,” Smith said. “As a result, users must reduce feed rate. This causes a loss in chip breakage on cutting tools. By utilizing the pinch turn cycle with the dual opposed gang slide, users are successful in maintaining tools within the manufacturerโ€™s recommendations, and therefore breaking a chip during the cut.โ€

Additionally, users are able to “stage” the next tool in the process by preparing that tool on the opposite gang tool post, which reduces cycle times.

โ€œThere is nearly zero โ€˜chip-to-chipโ€™ time when this is done,โ€ Smith said.
