PMTS 2023: Absolute Machine Tools Raises the Bar with an Impressive Exhibit
Absolute Machine Tools recently participated in the Precision Machining Technology Show, which took place from April 18-20, 2023, in Cleveland, Ohio. This event is one of the largest trade shows in North America for the precision machining industry, bringing together manufacturers, suppliers, and customers from across the globe.
In our booth at PMTS 2023, we showcased a range of our advanced manufacturing solutions, including a LICO LNTS series CNC screw machine, two Nexturn Swiss-type lathes, two QuickTECH multitasking mill/turn centers, a Seiki high production drill/tap center, and a variety of easy-to-use automation solutions. Our team of experts was on hand to answer questions, offer demonstrations, and provide guidance on the best solutions to meet our customers’ specific needs.
Cutting Demonstrations Shown in Our Booth
QuickTECH i-42 ULTIMATE Bar Processing Machine + TRACER VS65LE Bar Loader
Component: HSK ER16 Tool Holder
Process: 1-1/2 diameter lead free brass form Weiland Chase was machined to produce this part. 20 different tools were used on the main and sub spindle to produce the holder in 6 minutes complete. Multiple milling and angular features were produced by utilizing the B axis on both the main and sub spindles. With the complex features being machinable on both spindles, the sub spindle was available for “free” work overlapping.
QuickTECH T8 HYBRID Mill/Turn Center + TRACER VS65LE Bar Loader
Component: Air Nozzle
Process: High volume brass air nozzle utilizing heavy cutting on the main turret while adding sub spindle “free” work overlapping. 2” diameter lead free brass form Weiland Chase was machined to produce the nozzle in 180 seconds. The main turret was able to push a 1” inserted drill at 1750 RPM and 24 IPM to a depth of 2.5” deep. The sub spindle machined a contour finish in the nozzle’s tip.
Seiki KT-420L Milling and Tapping Center + Mitsubishi LoadMate Plus
Component: Desk Clock
Process: Loading a 6” diameter round blank to be machined in 2 operations to produce a desk clock/notepad. The robot loaded and unloaded while also flipping from Op10 to Op20 inside the machine. High speed cutters were utilized to remove massive amounts of material at nearly 1400 SFM. EAOT was changed automatically to remove part by ¼ “ ledge.
LICO LNT42S-S4 Multi-Slide CNC Screw Machine + TRACER 51V Bar Feeder
Component: Brass Hose Fitting
Process: We utilized 3 cutting tools simultaneously on the main spindle. A 1-1/8 diameter led-free brass from Weiland Chase was machined to produce the fitting. This demo used grooving and ID/OD turning along with drilling to produce the hose fitting in less than 90 seconds complete. The turret-mounted sub spindle did “free” back work while overlapping the main spindle for maximum efficiency.
Nexturn SA-20B Swiss Lathe + TRACER 20 Bar Feeder
Component: Knife Sharpener
Process: We utilized rough turning, drilling, grooving, finish turning operations to machine a fully functional knife sharpener; the only outside components added were carbide blades and standard screws.
Nexturn SA-32PII Swiss Lathe + TRACER 32V Bar Feeder
Component: Fitting
Process: OD turning, grooving, and threading, ID drilling and boring, and cross milling with circular interpolation.
We are proud to have displayed over six live cutting demonstrations, showcasing the impressive capabilities, high-level precision, and new technology of our machines. Our own Scott Petrisko, Applications Engineer, presented the benefits of LICO CNC screw machines as a solution for overcoming labor shortages. Our production turning experts also provided insights into the latest trends and advancements in the industry, including the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, automation, and robotics. Throughout the three-day event, we had the opportunity to connect with a wide range of professionals in the precision machining industry to learn more about their unique challenges and requirements and offer tailored solutions to meet their needs.
Overall, our participation in PMTS 2023 was a great success, and we are already looking forward to exhibiting in 2025. We would like to thank all the attendees who visited our booth and provided us with valuable feedback and insights. As we continue to innovate and develop new solutions for the precision machining industry, we remain committed to providing our customers with the highest level of support and expertise.
