Tongtai MDV and GT Series – 5-axis Trunnion Table Machining Centers
The four-machine Tongtai MDV and GT Series of high speed, high accuracy 5-axis trunnion table machining centers is engineered for complex, precise machining of mold, die, aerospace and medical parts. The machines have heavy Meehanite castings, roller-type linear guideways in linear axes, and zero-backlash roller gear mechanisms in tilt and rotary axes to maximize rigidity and precision. Large diameter double-anchored and pre-tensioned ballscrews with least increment input of 0.0001mm/ 0.00001″ produce positioning accuracy of +/- 0.003mm (0.00012″) and repeatability of 0.0025 mm (0.0001″) with scales.
The patented roller gear drive supports high torque, high speed machining and provides superior clamping capability. Because the roller gear system acts as a gear reducer, it simplifies machine design and eliminates the need for hydraulics to clamp the table in the machine.
The trunnion can move 360˚ in 1.8 seconds in the rotary axis and 120˚ in 1.8 seconds in the tilt axis. The preloaded system has no backlash and delivers accuracy of +/- 7 arc seconds and repeatability of +/- 2 arc seconds utilizing the standard high accuracy rotary scales. A rotary union to supply hydraulics for fixtures is standard.
Depending on the specific machine, X travels range from 24″ – 33.5″ (610mm – 851mm), Y travel range from 21” – 40.2” (533mm – 1022mm), and Z travel range from 18” – 24” (457mm – 610mm). Standard spindle power is 33 hp, with 30 hp or 39 hp standard on the largest machine. Standard capacity is 16 tools for the changer on the smallest machine and 30 tools on the other machines in the series, with 40, 64 and 80 tools optional.
