Johnford DMC-900 ~ DMC-1500 – Moving Table Bridge Mills

Johnford’s DMC-900 to DMC-1500 bridge mill series features a compact moving-table design that conserves floor space compared to conventional vertical machining centers. X-axis travel ranges from 35.4″ to 59.1″, with 35.4″ Y-axis and 30″ Z-axis travel. Built with a one-piece Meehanite cast iron base, these machines use a fixed column and moving table design for exceptional rigidity—just like their larger counterparts. A robust 90° bridge with offset Y-axis ways and an extra-wide saddle keeps the spindle centerline close to the bridge, delivering outstanding cutting stability.

Built for Superior Rigidity and Performance

With over three decades of experience manufacturing double-column machining centers, Johnford’s designs are proven and highly refined. Unlike lighter conventional VMCs, these machines are cast in our own Meehanite foundry, where extra iron is added for greater mass and stability. Dense, fine-grain Meehanite castings deliver excellent vibration damping for superior surface finishes and extended tool life. The unique one-piece bridge and columns casting, along with the one-piece full-length base, provides 100% table support over the entire travel and maximizes overall structural rigidity.

Engineered for Efficiency and Ease of Use

Designed with operator ergonomics and safety in mind, the DMC-900 through DMC-1500 series features full enclosures that keep coolant and chips contained while providing excellent access. Swing-open side doors and a movable operator panel allow easy tool changes and machine setup, while the table height of just 30.7″ ensures comfortable part loading from the floor. Available spindles include 50 taper, 40 taper, HSK-100A, and HSK-63A to suit heavy-duty cutting or high-speed machining requirements, with optional gearbox-driven, direct-drive, or integral-motor configurations for maximum flexibility.
