Shimada
Shimada Machine Tool Drives Company
A Driving Force for Manufacturing
Shimada Machine Tool Drives Co., Ltd., founded in 1947 in Maruyama-cho, Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, was born from the Shimada family’s vision to pioneer their own high-performance multi-spindle machine technology. Inspired by advanced machinery they encountered in Europe and North America, the Shimadas were determined to not only build exceptional machines but to integrate precision drive systems that would set new benchmarks in speed, reliability, and quality. The name “Shimada” became synonymous with engineering excellence and cutting-edge drives in the world of machine tools.
In 1962, Shimada revolutionized the industry by introducing its own 6-spindle automatic lathe, a leap forward in multi-spindle drive technology. This was soon followed by an 8-spindle model, solidifying Shimada’s leadership in this field. Over 60 years later, the company continues to be recognized globally for its high-speed, high-precision CNC multi-spindle, multi-turret machines — offered in 2-, 4-, 6-, and 8-spindle configurations — all powered by the advanced drive systems that remain central to Shimada’s innovation legacy.
