Johnford SV and VMC (40 Taper) Machining Center Series
Johnford 40 taper SV and VMC super vertical machining centers are box-way, geared-head, C-frame machines that feature solid heavily-ribbed Meehanite cast iron construction to eliminate vibration and ensure excellent surface finishes and long cutting tool life. X-Y-Z travels for the 13-machine series range from 32″ x 20″ x 24″ (800mm x 500 mm x 600 mm) to 120″ x 43″ x 32″ (3000mm x 1075 mm x 800 mm).
Four oversized box ways support the saddle and work table, maximizing X-axis accuracy over the full travel range of the machine, a key factor in maintaining part accuracy and precision. All sliding surface areas and gibs are coated with Turcite-B and hand scraped for precise fit.
Large diameter pre-tensioned ballscrews have a double-nut preloaded design to minimize the potential of thermal growth and promote high accuracy and high speed positioning.
Available horsepower for the 40-taper spindle ranges from 15 to 20 hp, depending on the machine, with maximum spindle speeds of 10,000 – 24,000 rpm. The motor and gearbox are aligned to ensure no offset and guarantee steady movement of the headstock along the Z axis. The design reduces torsion on the headstock and ensures optimum rigidity, long term accuracy and repeatability. A two-speed gearbox is standard, with direct/integral drive optional.
A 24-tool capacity arm-type automatic tool changer is standard, with 30-, 40- and 60-tool versions optional. Also standard are rigid tapping capability, a spindle oil cooler, a full machine enclosure and flood coolant system with programmable air blast. A comprehensive list of options includes linear scales, tool setters, probing systems, 4th- and 5th-axis drives and accessories, pallet changers and other equipment to enable a user to tailor machine productivity to a specific manufacturing environment.
