You Ji VLS Series – Vertical Turning Lathes with 12 Station Tool Changer

You Ji VLS-2000ATC vertical turning lathes are large, high precision, heavy-duty machines, competitively priced for heavy-duty turning of large size workpieces. Maximum turning diameter is 98.4″ (2500 mm). The rigid double columns, cross rail, and machine base are Meehanite castings, heavily ribbed to minimize thermal distortion and dampen vibration.

The X and Z axes are a rigid box way design coated with Turcite B. The Z axis is a large 9″ x 9″ (228 mm x 228 mm) square cast steel ram that is rigid even when extended its full 37.4″ (950 mm) length. Class 3 ballscrews are 2.48″ (63 mm)-dia. and driven directly by servo motors, eliminating belts or gears. The hydraulically clamped cross rail moves on box ways in 7.87″ (200 mm) increments.

The heavy-duty spindle incorporates a high-precision 44.5″ (1130 mm) dia. O.D. / 35.5″ (901 mm) dia. I.D. Timken cross roller bearing to endure high axial and radial loads. Twin 50 hp (100 hp total) Fanuc high-torque spindle motors are coupled with twin 2-speed ZF gear boxes that transmit power through an intermediate gearbox. The table is driven by a Class-1 ring gear with dual pinion gears that provide further gear reduction and torque multiplication. Spindle/table torque is 41,133 lb-ft, providing the power for heavy duty machining. The spindle can support a table load of 22,000 lbs.

An optional C-axis utilizes twin spindle motors and twin pinion drives in tandem to produce precise positioning and repeatability without the need for a separate C-axis servo motor and gearbox. Positioning is less than 10 arc seconds while repeatability is less than 5 arc seconds.

The standard 12-station automatic tool changer stores 50-taper tools, and other tool change options are available. The umbrella style automatic tool changer provides shortest route tool selection and is completely shielded from chips and coolant, which wash directly into the standard chip conveyor.
