40 Taper Twin Spindle Vertical Machining Center with Independent Z Axes
The UM-500DH is fast yet heavy duty twin spindle #40 taper vertical machining center. It is well suited to high volume machining of parts that fit in a 20” cube. With unique independent Z axes, setting of tools and workpiece adjustments is made easy without the use of off-line tool setting and gauging stations. It also simplifies fixture tolerance and design.
The compact size consumes very little valuable floor space while the blazing speed will deliver more parts per hour than the competition. The twin spindles and twin ATC makes the processing of two similar parts at a time possible. The machine is designed to be automated also either by means of a robot load through the front door or by utilizing the long Y axis travel DHL version for loading from the top via gantry loader or gantry robot. The DHL model allows the to travel an extra 15.7” forward to gain full access to the table from the top of the machine.
The machine features a Meehanite cast iron frame and rigid roller type linear slideways for rigidity, fast, and precise movement. The (2) 40mm (1.57”) diameter Z axis ballscrews are class 3 with a double nut pre-loaded design allowing a standard rapid traverse rate of 1417 inches per minute in all 3 axes with fast Z axis acceleration. The ABS (Absolute Pulse Coder) servo system does not require zero return. The machine can be started anytime from any position, saving non-productive time. Standard dual screw type conveyors and a bed flushing system move chips and swarf to the front of the machine to an additional screw conveyor that exits the left side of the machine. An optional front left side discharge caterpillar type chip conveyor provides efficient chip removal.
The UM-500DH is standard with dual 30 tool high speed twin arm type ATC’s – one for each spindle. The random access ATC’s provide fast, reliable tool changes. Complete tool change time is only 2.1 seconds tool to tool and 3.5 seconds chip to chip.
Each direct drive 12,000 RPM CAT-40 spindle is powered by its own 25HP high torqe spindle motor. The standard spindle chiller maintains spindle temperatures and minimizes thermal growth. Coolant through the spindle preparation in both spindles is also standard (pump systems optional).
The Mitsubishi M80A control is standard and is suitable for a wide range of applications from production to high speed machining applications. The M80A control features a 10.4” touch screen with intuitive smart phone type operation. A dedicated CNC CPU provides phenomenal processing speeds. An all new high response servo system with 1,000,000 pulse encoders is provided for state-of-the-art speed and accuracy.
