Precihole LPVN Series – Vertical Lapping Machines
Lapping is a precision machining process used to improve the finish, straightness, and uniformity of a bore. Barrels manufactured for the gun industry use lapping machines to lap or polish bores and grooves in the barrel after button or cut rifling. This process helps improve the surface finish by getting rid of any burr or surface deformities like deep tool or chatter marks on the ID. This is the last process in barrel ID making before chambering and profiling. Precihole’s LPVN Series is capable of handling both cast lead or hard nylon brush tools to perform the operation. The choice of using either one of those types of tools depends on the level of polishing necessary to achieve a smoother and more uniform interior of the barrel.
Lapping benefits:
- Improved Accuracy: Lapping results in a consistent and smoother bore, enhancing accuracy.
- Reduced Fouling: A smoother bore reduces fouling and makes cleaning the barrel easier.
- Uniform Wear: Lapping helps achieve more uniform wear over the barrel’s life.
