The Johnford GT Series consists of eight large-frame horizontal slant bed CNC lathes engineered for heavy-duty turning, long-part machining, and high-horsepower roughing applications. Built in Johnford’s own casting foundry — a rare capability in the machine tool industry — the GT Series features a one-piece 45° torque-tube slant bed design that delivers exceptional rigidity, thermal stability, and structural integrity.
These machines serve industries such as energy, oil & gas, aerospace, locomotive, and heavy equipment, where accuracy on long or oversized cylindrical components is essential. - Large swing capacities: 61″ over bed and 50″ over cross slide support oversized workpieces commonly found in energy and heavy equipment sectors.
- Long-bed configurations from 40″ to 393″ to support turning of oversized shafts, turbine and generator rotors, long hydraulic cylinders, propulsion components, and extended oilfield tooling. Because Johnford operates its own casting plant, ultra-long-bed machines maintain structural rigidity and geometric stability without the deflection issues often seen in extended-length slant-bed platforms.
- 60° inclined saddle casting for greater swing and improved chip evacuation at the cutting zone.
- Hand-scraped Turcite-B sliding surfaces for smooth motion and stable accuracy during fine finishing operations.
- Pre-tensioned double-nut ballscrews to minimize thermal error and maintain precision over long machining cycles.
- Programmable hydraulic tailstock providing rigid support for long and heavy workpieces.
- Optional live tooling and full C-axis converting the machine into a flexible turning-milling solution for drilling, tapping, contouring, and multi-operation processing.
