The machine is an XY traveling column type design where the pallet moves in Z. The APC unit, located in front of the machine, provides easy access and slashes idle time. The APC is a rotary-type pallet changer, and it exchanges the pallets in only 7 seconds for both 400 models and 10 seconds in the 500 model series. For pallet rotation in the machining envelope, the standard .001-degree full B axis precisely indexes the pallet with only a 1.2 second 90-degree index time and 1.65 second 180-degree index time. A 4-cone hydraulic clamping mechanism with air seat confirmation is used to clamp the pallet in place for excellent repeatability.
