Johnford DMC Series 1600mm – 4100mm Moving Table/Fixed Column Bridge Mills

Johnford is well known around the world for building one of the heaviest and most rugged CNC bridge mills in the industry today, and that certainly hasn’t changed since the company’s inception back in the late 70’s. Johnford’s DMC-1600 ~ DMC-4100 bridge mill series is a moving table / fixed column design and is so incredibly vast in standard and optional accessory choices, there’s something available for every type of metal cutting manufacturer in the industry today.

Longitudinal X-axis travel ranges from 63” ~ 157”, 51” cross Y-axis travel, and 31.5” Z-axis vertical travel (42” optional). Distance between column is 51.2” for this series. Like their counterparts, these machines consist of one-piece Meehanite cast iron design for the best rigidity possible. A rugged 90˚ bridge with offset Y-axis ways and a wide saddle keeps the spindle center line extremely close to the bridge enhancing additional rigidity and superior support of the massive headstock. Standard spindle speed for this series ranges from 0-10,000 RPMs, and optional Weiss integral spindles speeds range from 0-24,000 RPMs. Large diameter, pretensioned ballscrews and powerful servo motors also aid positioning accuracy. Ergonomics are designed to facilitate easy loading and unloading of workpieces.

Massive Z-axis head and Y-axis saddle feature square box ways coated with Turcite and have been designed with diagonally arranged ribs reduce distortion, even after years of continued use.  The X-axis table traverse is accomplished via heavy-duty Schneeberger roller linear ways for accurate positioning of heavy workpieces.  The machines’ spindle shafts range from 2.75” (70mm) to 3.54” (90mm) and are driven by a 15HP or 35HP 2-speed geared head spindle drive (with headstock cooler) delivering outstanding cutting performance at any RPM. 

Standard features for this series include 24 and 40-tool arm-type ATCs, CAT-40, CAT-50, HSK-63A and HSK-100A tool types, chip removal system consisting of 2 screw-type conveyors on each side of the table and caterpillar-type at the end, high-volume coolant system, full enclosure (including the top), Fanuc OiM-F Plus CNC control with Alpha 1 servo system with 1,000,000 pulse encoders, Standard spindle tapers are offered in ISO 40 and 50 taper, depending on the model. Additional standard features include flood coolant system with programmable air blast, air blast for spindle, auto lubrication with alarm, Halogen work lamp, remote handwheel, heat exchangers for control cabinets, hydraulic counterbalance for headstock, rigid tapping, and much more.

Optional features include 4 and 5-axis capabilities, 32, 40,60, 80 and 120 tools depending on model, BT-40 or BT-50 tool types, high pressure coolant through spindle, Fanuc 31iM-B Plus control, manual guide i, Renishaw laser tool setters, Renishaw OMP-60 and 600 part probe for 2-D and 3-D surfaces, high-pressure coolant thru spindle, linear scales on XYZ, and Weiss integral spindles using HSK-63A or HSK-100A, depending on the model type.
